As a volunteer social worker you will undertake a 6 month experiential study period in Denmark, a 6 months work experience period as a Development Instructor within an existing social development project in either Malawi or Mozambique, and a 2 month follow up period in Europe.
No qualifications or previous experience required. Boarding/tuition fees apply. Scholarships are available on an earn to learn basis.
During the 6 month experiential study period in Denmark, 50% of your time will be spent gaining practical experience by working with youth who have emotional/learning difficulties. The remaining 50% of your time will be spent studying in preparation for the role of a DI in Africa.
Responsibilities of the DI in Africa surround facilitating the capacity development of locals to be pro-active and able community leaders.
Examples of the employment roles a DI undertakes inculde:
Teacher of Teachers - Working with the perminant personnel at a teacher training college for local primary school teachers, who are also responsible for leading the mobilizion of the local community to build and send children to school.
Community Outreach - Working with the perminant personnel and local volunteers at a HIV/AIDS project, who are responsible for mitigating the spread of HIV/AIDS through Information, Education and Communication (IEC), generating income to support orphans, offering pre and post counselling and testing, homebase care and support to those infected or affected by the epidemic.
