If you already have a SIA license, then SIA upskilling course is the right thing for you. The SIA upskilling course is a refresher training for those, who want to renew their license with SIA. All the SIA licenses you obtain from SIA, have a three years validity. Once you pass the SIA upskilling course you will be able to renew your License.
The SIA Upskilling course consists of following units
Unit 1 - Physical Intervention Skills within the Private Security Industry
• Chapter 1: Understand physical interventions and theimplications of their use
• Chapter 2: Understand how to reduce the risk of harmwhen physical intervention skills are used
• Chapter 3: Be able to use non-aggressive physical skillsto protect yourself and others
• Chapter 4: Be able to use non-pain related standing, holding and escorting techniques, includingnon-restrictive and restrictive skills
• Chapter 5: Understand good practice to follow after physical interventions
Unit 2 - Safety Awareness for Door Supervisors within the Private Security Industry
• Chapter 1: Understand counter terrorism issuesrelevant to a door supervisor
• Chapter 2: Know the role of a door supervisor whenfirst aid situations occur in licensedpremises
• Chapter 3: Know legislation and requirementsregarding children and young peoplerelevant to a door supervisor
• Chapter 4: Understand how a door supervisor canhelp to keep vulnerable people safe
• Chapter 5: Understand queue management andvenue capacity responsibilities relevant to a door supervisor

It has been designed to be completed in 1 & half Day ( SIA mandatory minimum contract hours).
Course assessment: Multiple-choice examination is set by Authority and marked by the tutor.

Well, there is no need to stress out. SIA upskiling course leading to renewed license is fairly simple. This is an entry level course. So, you don’t need a formal qualification to apply. To be eligible for the renewed SIAlicense,you need to have a SIA license and you need to successfully complete the SIA UpskillingCourse. PLUS, you must be over 18 years of age, have the right to work in UK and have passed a criminal check.
How do you apply for renewal of SIA license?
“Applying for a license” may sound complicated, but trust us, IT IS VERY SIMPLE. You just need to pass the SIA Upskilling course, complete the license procedure in the SIA website, complete identity checks, and you are good to have a Renewed SIA license valid for three years.
The process of renewal is almost similar to getting a new license
At the completion of SIA upskillingTraining, your application for the license will cost you 210 pounds. You need to provide documents to prove your identity (Passport, Driving licenses etc.) and two recent passport sized Photographs.Documents required for the Upskilling Course and renewal of Iicense:
The documents required are divided into two groups. Group A and Group B. You need to provide one document from the group A and two documents from group B, along with two passport sized photos.

List of Documents

Group A:
• Current and valid UK passport
• Signed valid passport of any other nationality
• Driving licencephotocard if it was issued by the DVLA in Great Britain.
• Driving licencephotocard and its paper counterpart issued by the DVA in Northern Ireland.
• UK original birth certificate issued within 12 months of birth
• UK biometric residence permit card
Group B:
• Bank or building society statement issued within the last three months.
• Utility bill issued within the last three months
• A credit card statement sent to your current address within the last three months
• Council Tax statement issued in the last 12 months.
• Mortgage statement issued in the last 12 months.
• Letter from H.M. Revenue & Customs, Department of Work and Pensions, employment service, or local authority issued within the last three months. You can submit more than one letter as long as each is issued by a different Government department or a different local authority.
• P45 statement of income for tax purposes on leaving a job issued in the last 12 months.
• P60 annual statement of income for tax purposes issued in the last 12 months.
• Current UK driving licence – paper version (not the paper counterpart to a photocard).
• Driving licencephotocard (without a paper counterpart) issued by the DVA in Northern Ireland.
• Pension, endowment or ISA statement issued in last 12 months.
• Valid UK firearms licence with photo.

According to SIA website once you pay the fee it may take up to 25 working days to get your license.
Once you have SIA license, you can legally work in the private security industry and as a part of the Public Space Surveillance system. And trust us it is a more exciting career opportunity than many think.
Please Note, the License you get, will be valid for a period of three years. After the validity is expired you have to again apply for the renewal of the License. In the meantime, you may add a few SIA Licenses to your arsenal and make yourself a formidable candidate with avenues for better jobs in the security industry.
