Religious and History of Yamunotri Ji Temple
The second most pious river in India making it one of the religious sites in the Uttarakhand’s Chota Char Dham Yatra and originate in Yamunotri is Yamuna River. According to the legend at Banderpoonch after burning Lanka of Ravana in the chilly waters of Yamuna God Hanuman doused the fire of his tail.

Narrated in a famous legend which is related in the River Yamuna and Ganges daily is mythological significance of Yamunotri Dham. Asit Muni was unable to go to Gangotri in his old age. A Ganges stream started to flow beside that of Yamuna when realizing his problem. The Yamunotri temple has been renovated a couple of times due to destruction by the elements and weather. Attended by lakhs of dedicated Hindu religion on their sacred journey are rituals at the Yamunotri temple. Originally temple Yamunotri is said to have been construct in 19th century by Maharani Guleria of Jaipur. Enough to fill the hearts of the pilgrims with wonder is the majestic setting of the Yamunotri temple which is one of the Chota Char Dham religious sites. Brought about with vedic chants, celebrations and elaborate rituals are both opening and closing ceremonies of the shrine Yamunotri.

Nearby the Yamunotri temple enshrining the Goddess River is the Divya Shilla which means “Divine Rock”. Nearby the Yamunotri shrine and hot gushing spring is used for bathing the temple’s deity as well as in preparation of the Prasadam- potatoes and rice in a muslin cloth is Surya Kund. Away from the Yamunotri temple Janki Chatti is known for many hot water springs which are believed to have powers. The place here devotees can find many spots to lodge and eat on their trip to the holy yatra towards Yamunotri is Hanuman Chatti.

How to Reach:
Consider best to take while on road journey is route via Dehradun and Barkot. At all times of the year available are regular trains towards Dehradun and Haridwar. The closest airport towards is Jolly Grant airport.
