Investing in custom made collars for your dog will be well worth it, as it will last for years. These collars are hand made from top quality British bridle leather using traditional saddler’s techniques. The brassware is also top quality from the last remaining British foundary. Show your dog how much you care with a really sturdy, quality, traditional hand made collar which will look smart for many years to come. Leather collars suit small and large dogs, the traditional buckle fastening ensures that it will never split or be forced open.
First steps to finding the right size dog collar is to consider your dog’s breed, but this should only be a guideline as each dog is different and there are variations in size. To make sure your custom made collar is going to be the right fit, you need to measure using a fabric tape measure. To make sure it is not too tight, you should be able to fit two fingers under it. Which width? In general wider collars will provide more support and will be better for stronger dogs. A wider collar will also be more comfortable as it will reduce pressure on the neck. Another factor to consider is your dog’s fur thickness. If it gets regular haircuts, you should measure before and after going to the groomers to make sure you get an adjustable collar that will suit your dog at all times.
A good guide for a leather collar width would be:
½” for small dogs or puppies
5/8” for small to medium size e.g. up to a small Spaniel size
¾” – 1” medium to large breeds e.g. Springer size
1 1/4” – larger breeds e.g. Labrador and stronger dogs.
