It was established as the catering for the Recruits Training Center of Garhwal Rifles by the Britishers. Lansdowne used to be the hub of all the major activities done by the freedom fighters of the British Garhwal.
At present, it houses the command office of the Garhwal Rifles of the Indian Army. Visitors can admire the rustic buildings, churches and old taverns at Lansdowne which are reciting the unheard history of pre-Independence Era.
Lansdowne is a well-known natural beauty which resembles British era. In this place one can get a glimpse of well preserved British heritage bungalows and churches. It offers fascinating views of Himalayas, with mesmerising view of sunrise and sunset from different view points.
For history lovers, The War Memorial and the Garhwal Rifles Regimental Museum is the ideal place to visit having great things to tell. And for spirituality one can go for Kaleshwar Mahadev Temple, Tarkeshwar Mahadev Temple, Bhairav Garhi Temple and Bhim Pakora near Lansdowne. To travel Lansdowne, one has to reach Dehradun via airways and Kotdwar via railways first which is situated at a distance of 158kms and 40kms away from Lansdowne respectively.
